Sarah Palin – How else could we even begin to explain the bizarre antics of this woman? She consistently amazes the thinking world with her inability to do just that. Think. The best guess is that she is deeply addicted to Tap Defense. It absolutely HAS to be Tap Defense. All the rest of the games are too hard. Come to think of it, half of the people in the United States must be wasting their Friday nights right along with her. However, it was recently reported that the Russians know who bombed that Moscow airport and it wasn’t Sarah Palin.

Charlie Sheen – No brainer. This guy is addicted to Creeps because he is one. The only thing scarier than a monster in your closet is Charlie Sheen in your bedroom. Actually, he probably ought to keep playing this computer game on Friday nights because it’s better for his reputation than doing business with escorts and hitting his wife. It’s also a healthier addiction.

Mel Gibson – If there were only one computer or iPhone in Hollywood, Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen would probably fight over Creeps, so let’s give Mel his own Friday night tower defense game. A man with so many delusions probably plays Zombie Attack and chances are he really believes those ghouls exist. Unfortunately, the dehumanizing epithets he’s probably shrieking at the Zombies are being used against every minority he’s ever encountered.

Billy the Exterminator – What a strange guy. So redneck, yet so knowledgeable about bugs and creepy crawlies. It’s the crazy studded uniform that makes it a dead giveaway that this guy spends his Friday nights playing that girlie tower defense sensation, Garden War. If anyone would know how to build a backyard tower maze to defeat bugs, it’s this guy. You can bet he’s a champion. His mama probably plays this game too.

Okay. You get the idea. There are so many tower defense games to play that it’s undeniable that every brand of weirdo and loser in the world must have one he or she is obsessed with- and it’s also light enough that EVERYONE can play meaning, those with true geekalicious gaming laptops, or those with netbooks.

Happily, most of us are obsessed and that means…we could be weird too.

To go viral, your video has to touch a sensitive trigger within the viewer that inspires them to not only share the material with their friends, but with the world. For the best results, try to touch a basic emotion, identify with the viewer, or provide invaluable information.

While YouTube makes it extremely easy to share videos, it’s also easy for your material to become lost in the sheer volume of information. Consider posting your material on some of the other social video sites that have growing communities. When filming your material, test the footage with several popular viewers, like the VLC Media Player, to ensure high-quality video content.

3. Look at the Statistics

Before posting your video, review the statistics for each video sharing platform to determine the best time and the best location for your video. Depending on the target market, your chances of success will be dramatically increased if you put a little thought into the distribution method.

4. Authentic Footage Is Better

Whether the footage has captured the ultimate humiliation or an unbelievable accomplishment, reality trumps staged material every single time in the viral world.

5. Short and Sweet

Long videos quickly lose the attention of most viewers. Shorter videos always have a better chance of going viral. The goal should be to attract attention, deliver the message, and exit quickly. If the viewer likes it, they’ll watch it over and over again and convince their friends to do the same.

6. Use a Catchy Title

U2

Most of us have heard of U2. However, what many people don’t realize is that they actually formed in high school, and they have stuck together growing into international stardom. U2 was put together in 1976, when 14 year old Larry Mullen, Jr. put an ad on his Dublin school’s bulletin board looking for musicians. The group that was put together that first day of auditions included Paul Hewson, (who would later become known as Bono) on vocals, Adam Clayton on bass, Dave Evans, (who later become known as The Edge) on guitar, with Mullen on drums.

Green Day

Billy Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt met in their elementary school cafeteria, and put together a band called Sweet Children when they were just 15. After high school, they changed the name of the band to Green Day, due to a comment from one of their teachers claiming it would be a “green day in hell” before they made anything out of themselves.

The Beatles

The Beatles were put together by John Lennon in his final year at Liverpool’s Quarry Bank High School. Originally called The Quarrymen, he was joined by Paul McCartney whom he met at a church event. McCartney was attending Liverpool Institute High School For Boys, but they hit it off over their interest in music. They were later joined by a friend of McCartney’s who was also at the Liverpool institute, George Harrison, and the rest as they say, is history.

INXS

Both Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence attended Davidson High School in northern Sydney. They met when Farriss was breaking up a school ground fight, and they became fast friends. Farriss had a band already, called Doctor Dolphin with another friend named Garry Beers playing bass. The three were later invited by Andrew’s older brother Tim Farriss to join them in a band of his with friend Kirk Pengilly. Eventually, younger brother Joe Farriss joined them, and they moved to Perth for a year to learn the ropes. The name was INXS was coined, and they went on to international fame.

Genesis

The English Charterhouse School in Surrey was the starting point for rock band Genesis, when students Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford formed the band in 1967. They started playing their own music, as they had originally wanted to be songwriters, when no one else would record it. Eventually they were signed, and became a legendary rock band.

Through perseverance, and some shaky beginnings, they all have become rock bands that all aspiring musicians can look up to. They show what is possible, and that sometimes just a little hard work and determination is what it takes to land a record deal and become a star.

2) Surround yourself with people who will understand your goals and support you all the way. Lance Armstrong was able to dominate the tour de France because he always raced with a team that was fully dedicated to his success. The race for fame is no different. No one in your life should have a life of their own. Ever.

3) Work like a dog. Ralph Nader, Stephen King, Oprah, John Darnielle, and Muse all have this in common; they darken the sky with arrows. Plan to spend decades producing good, solid work before you start to be appreciated.

4) Make yourself useful. If you invented light bulbs, sliced bread, or faulty but ubiquitous home-computer operating systems, we won’t be forgetting it anytime soon. Unless you invented sliced bread.

5) Do something exceptionally stupid or evil. We recommend killer robots, hostile takeovers, implausible super-weapons, and giant shark tanks in your home. Pretending to send your child afloat in a home-made blimp made of weather balloons is not recommended, but it will also do the trick.

6) Make the connections that everyone else missed. Watson and Crick didn’t do any independent laboratory research to win their Nobel prize, and Justin Timberlake didn’t invent dancing or singing. Sometimes magic comes just from putting the right ingredients together at the right time.

7) Make your life into a work of art. Hawking, Gaga, Madonna, I’m looking at you.

Tap into the zeitgeist. Sometimes a piece of art captures the spirit of a moment, a place, a people. Think of Harry Potter, the Matrix, Justin Beiber, and Fight Club; you get the idea. Be in touch with the epitome of your age.

9) Hit the net. The biggest threat to your celebrity future is the fact that any schlep with a webcam can set up a youtube channel and funnel away adoration and attention that rightfully belongs to you. Listen closely: your job is to be that schlep. As long as your talent can fit into poorly produced three minute video clips, youtube is the way and the light. Produce consistently and promote shamelessly. If an audience is there, it will find you.

10) Be all that. Even the genuine article isn’t guaranteed to reach celebrity in this life, but it can_t possibly hurt to have superstar-quality talent. Of course–not to harp on earlier points–but working your behind off to develop whatever talent you have also can’t possibly hurt.

Also, get as much toilet paper as you can. Stores may charge up to $2.00 for a roll of toilet paper. Think of it as part of your severance package.
